Dirt School

Coach Mari Kvisto demonstrates proper ready position.

Dirt School is an after school, half day or full day program run by community ed departments in conjunction with the Minnesota Cycling Association. Using the proven coaching methodology, students are shown how to “pre-check” a mountain bike and are taught basic bike handing skills at local mountain bike trails under the supervision of seasoned instructors. Bikes and helmets are provided.

History

Dirt School was piloted in 2018, in partnership with Minnetonka Community Education.

With the objective of getting #morekidsonbikes – the Dirt School program was expanded in 2019 to support additional communities and multiple skill levels. The community partners with the MCA to design the specifics of their program. This program offers hundreds of kids the opportunity to learn about mountain biking.

What was previously MCA ‘Summer Camp’ has been rolled into the Dirt School Program, offering a day camp experience to 100’s of kids across a wider area.  There is no overnight component to the Dirt School program.
