Race Course Description
Come discover the fantastic Redhead Mountain Bike Park at the Minnesota Discovery Center (MDC) in Chisholm, MN. Carved from the walls of an abandoned water-filled mine pit, Redhead offers outdoor enthusiasts an oasis of fun with hand-crafted and purpose-built mountain bike trails. This custom-designed race course traverses multiple terrain features and has options for riders to test out their skills.
Walk Your Bike Areas
The area in and around team tents is always a walk your bike area. Everyone is expected to walk their bike in these areas; if you are riding or are “scootering” with one foot on the pedal, you or your team could be penalized.
Other areas that are walk your bike areas include the start line during staging, the area around the registration trailer and the medical tents. Additional areas may be signed for walk your bike depending on the venue. All race attendees must follow these walk your bike rules. If an area is busy or you aren’t sure whether it’s a place to ride – please walk your bike!
No scooters, skateboards, unicycles, or other wheeled devices (excepting wheelchairs or mobility chairs) may be ridden in these areas. These are busy areas with lots of people and it is important for the safety of all attendees that everyone walks their bike.

Pre-ride Information:
The course will be available to pre-ride until the Thursday before the race. Pre-ride will be available with your team on race weekend. Talk to your coach on when your team’s pre-ride will occur.
In general, student-athletes can pre-ride with their coaches on race weekends, including Friday from 4:30PM– dusk (6:30 PM), Saturday morning from 7:15 AM until 7:30AM (course closes to new laps at 7:30AM; all riders off by 8:00AM) or 4:45PM– dusk (6:30 PM), and Sunday from 7:15 AM – 7:30AM (course closes to new laps at 7:30AM; all riders off by 8:00AM). Pre-ride is only allowed during daylight hours. Times listed account for sunrise/sunset times for Chisholm. Plan to be off the course before sunset – riders should not be starting a pre-ride lap at 6:30 PM.
- All individuals must have a valid number plate (student-athlete or coach).
- Pre-riding by non MCA registered individuals is not allowed.
- Teams are responsible for leading and managing the pre-ride of their team.
- Individual student-athletes cannot pre-ride without a coach.
- The registration trailer is not open the entire time that pre-ride is schedule. It is the reasonability of the individuals to remember their number plates for pre-ride.
- Times may be adjusted based on weather, race delays, etc. Any changes will be communicated at the venue and through the Rained Out app.
As a courtesy to other races, do not pre-ride the race course if you are not scheduled to race that weekend, or pre-ride after your race (example: middle school pre riding on Saturday evening).
Remember that the purpose of pre-riding the course is to see and review the trail; for the safety of all riders on the course, it should NOT be ridden at race pace.
